Vor einer Woche releaste STARZ die Pilot Episode zu Spartacus Vengeance (aka Blood and Sand Season 2). Eigentlich sollte der nicht nur auf der offiziellen Webseite des US-Pay TV Senders gestreamed werden (so geschehen), sondern auch auf Facebook. Blöderweise ist dem nicht so, weswegen man (wenn denn) ein wenig mit der eigenen IP-Adresse tricksen muss, um in die Auftaktfolge reinzuschauen.

Nun denn. Season 2 premierte mittlerweile — am 27. Januar 2012 — im US-Fernsehen und es gibt ein paar weitere Updates. Einen offiziellen Season Trailer mit Footage Material aus den nächsten Folgen, ein paar Interview Snippets (wobei es da in den letzten Tagen unzählbar viele gegeben hat), sowie ein paar Featuretten zu den Hauptfiguren. Fangen wir mit ein paar der Interview Snippets an: IGN hatte ein Interview mit Lucy Lawless alias Lucretia, der Schlampe aus dem Ludus (sorry für die Ausdrucksweise, aber “Lucretia” ist ja nun mal ein Drecksstück. Abstreiten nützt nichts. Oder?) in welchem diese natürlich über Ihr TV-Ego plaudert. Über Lucretia’s Entwicklung in “Vengeance”, Ihren neuen Liebhaber (den wir schon aus irgendeiner vorangegangen Staffel kennen, obgleich Lucretia diesen nie beachtung geschenkt hatte) und darüber, was die Römer eigentlich waren: “Ein (von gottverdammter) perverser Haufen”. (Richtig!)

Weiter: Die Spartacus Executive Producer meinten, es habe Sie Monate gekostet, die Rolle von Andy Whitfield zu “ersetzen”. Managing Director Carmi Zlotnick erklärte den Casting Prozess, in dem Liam McIntyre bekanntlich das Rennen machte:

“He worked out, I got weekly updates showing how his physique changed from week to week. And after a period of a couple months of having him do that, we finally decided this is the guy. He not only has the acting chops, but the ability to bring the kind of intensity and unique attributes the role requires.”

Und McIntyre, der 4 Monate lang, verdammt hart dafür arbeitete um seinen Körper mit Muskeln zu bepacken:

“It was a very exciting time and I lost like 45 pounds for another [job]. And they kept bringing me back for training and they had a military trainer. It was fair enough and every moment through that process was exciting.” He also described the day the producers had to tell the cast that Whitfield had passed away. “It’s probably the saddest thing I had to be a part of. From the start, I knew I could tackle the role, because he made the decision [to leave] and get better. You can’t imagine how sad that day was.”

Nun ans eingemachte: STARZ hat nach der TV-Premiere von Spartacus Vengeance einen neuen Trailer veröffentlicht, der (sowie ich das verstanden habe) Footage aus den nächsten Folgen featured:

Australian actor Liam McIntyre (Ektopos, Radev, “Neighbours,” “The Pacific”) assumes the title role of Spartacus in this next chapter of the acclaimed series. McIntyre is joined by returning favorites: Lucy Lawless (“Xena: Warrior Princess,” “Battlestar Galactica”) as Lucretia; Peter Mensah (Avatar, 300, The Incredible Hulk) as Oenomaus – once known as Doctore; Manu Bennett (The Marine, 30 Days of Night), as Crixus; Dustin Clare (“Underbelly,” “Satisfaction”) as Gannicus; Nick E. Tarabay (“Crash,” “CSI: Miami”) as Ashur; and Katrina Law (“Third Watch”) as Mira.

Season two also brings the return of “Blood and Sand” cast members, Craig Parker (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy) as Gaius Cladius Glaber, the Roman commander who condemned Spartacus to slavery, and his alluring and cunning wife Ilithyia (Accidents Happen), played by Viva Bianca. Actress Cynthia Addai-Robinson (“Dirt”) joins the series as Naevia, the former body slave to Lucretia who was banished from the Ludus for engaging in a love affair with Crixus.

Premiering exclusively on STARZ, “Spartacus: Vengeance” is produced by executive producers Rob Tapert (The Grudge, “Xena: Warrior Princess” and “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys”), Steven S. DeKnight (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”), Sam Raimi (Spider-Man and The Evil Dead), and Joshua Donen (The Quick and the Dead). This same conceptual creative team behind the highly anticipated “Spartacus: Vengeance” also produced the first two installments of the series: season one, “Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” and the prequel, “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena.”
